In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

You decide, is it real?

Photo of 55ft snake shocks China

A photograph purporting to show a 55ft snake found in a forest in China has become an internet sensation.

It was originally posted in a thread on the website of the People's Daily, the official Communist Party newspaper in China.

The thread claimed the snake was one of two enormous boas found by workers clearing forest for a new road outside Guping city, Jiangxi province.

They apparently woke up the sleeping snakes during attempts to bulldoze a huge mound of earth.

"On the third dig, the operator found there was blood amongst the soil, and with a further dig, a dying snake appeared," said the post.

"At the same time, another gold coloured giant boa appeared with its mouth wide open. The driver was paralysed with fear, while the other workers ran for their lives.

"By the time the workers came back, the wounded boa had died, while the other snake had disappeared. The bulldozer operator was so sick that he couldn't even stand up."

The post claimed that the digger driver was so traumatised that he suffered a heart attack on his way to hospital and later died.

The dead snake was 55ft (16.7m) long, weighed 300kg and was estimated to be 140 years old, according to the post.

However, local government officials in Guiping say the story and photograph are almost certainly a hoax as giant boas are not native to the area.

Hmm....that is one impressive "boa."

Of course, most anyone on this site could tell the animal in question is actually a reticulated python. Furthermore, anyone with common sense (an oxymoron, according to one of my professors) could see that the photograph is taken in forced perspective; in other words, the snake is suspended closer in the foreground by the crane, which appears to be a good 15 or more feet behind it, giving the impression that the serpent is larger than it really is. While it is certainly a large specimen, whether or not it is a record-sized snake can only be determined by someone who knows how to use a tape measure, not superstitious natives.

For one thing, why didn't they show the "massive" snake next to some workers, like stretched out on the ground? Suspending it in the air doesn't prove anything as far as size goes.

Judging from the size of the bucket on the backhoe this snake is at MOST 18ft.......bottom line is that these retards killed a big beautiful snake.

140 years old too... impressive... Why is it that people who have ABSOLUTELY no idea what they're talking about decide to try to get on the news??? 55ft 140 year old BOA in China... THAT'LL be the day...

Of course they killed it. The chinese lead the world in animal cruelty and human right violations. Do you expect accuracy from a country that beat dogs to death as a solution to the rabies problem. In fairness, if you beat your own dog to death, they will pay you 78 cents. Rabies vaccine didn't seem to be an option for them. We should get the chinese together with the people promoting the Python Ban. They can have lunch.

I think everyone in the media must have brain damage. This must be some kind of new boa thats not from central or south america. it is also about 15 feet not 55 feet. I wouldnt be surprised if they ate it after the pic also.

Its a reticulated python, as mentioned above.

Yep, it's all about the forced perspective.

It's not surprising they killed it. It saddens me how China has no regard to wildlife at all. They've killed nearly all of the native turtles for food and "medicine," and now they're buying wild-caught U.S. turtles because they can't find enough in China anymore. I know we don't necessarily do the best job ever, but at least we're not locusts.

Being in the construction industry I can say most excavator buckets are 6 feet long. If take the bucket and scale it the snake would be close to 20 feet like one post has suggested.

Its probably just a typo simply call it a retic, say it lives in indonesia not china, take out the part that states that a man died just by seeing it and divide the lenght by five and you should have a true article. TOTAL BS

Of course they ate it.
The Chinese have eaten everything that is alive i their country, almost to the point of extinction of most of their native animals.
And of course the snake is not 55' long.
Who can believe anything that China says or shows to the public.
The entire country still lives in the stone age.

I have never seen an even remotely believable article in a normal paper about snakes the las one I saw was about a 17 foot boa constrictor in canada that was feared to be an invasive species. Almost nothing is invasive in canada no matter what it will be burnt to crisp in the summer and frozen to an ice cube in the winter.
