Diatomaceous earth to get rid of mites?? I do recall that you said it was good for internal parasites, but how does it work on mites? Wouldn't rolling the snakes in that "ground glass" mess up their eyes?

Couldn't you put it in a sock and use it like a duster?

Diatomaceous Earth works by removing moisture, thus dyhydrating the mites.
I have used it before with excellent results.

How did you use it? Explain the procedure, please. Dust, dust bath, etc...how long, how long it took to eridicate the mites, how many follow up treatments were needed and for how long...that kind of information would be helpful.

Hopefully this is not too off topic?

Deborah,
I have used it both dusting and a dust bath.
I have dusted snakes overhead and let them crawl in it also.
I leave the snakes in for about an hour and then rinse them off.
If you look closely, you can see mites in the powder.
I repeat the procedure as nessessary.
On heavily infested snakes I use BK. (Black Knight).
Sorry for being off topic!

Oh, I would NOT use it on Invertrebrates, as it will desicate them!

Isn't BK toxic for snakes? I know that there's a thread on the topic somewhere, i'll try and find it.

Nope! He's still too busy saying it's our fault for harassing him.
