Exactly.

My daughter is all kinds of mad that I'm even going to have him checked, she really wants to just keep him. I remind her how she would feel if one of our babies was missing, and someone just decided to keep them, without so much as a word that they were at least still alive. She grudgingly agrees.

But yeah, I'd be calling vets, posting flyers, ads, everyone within a 50 mile radius would know MY doggie was missing.

The only bad habit we've found with him so far........he likes to hump the cats.

Well, good news and bad news.......I had kind of forgotten to update this.....

The pooch had no microchip, and he just stuck around up til about 2 weeks ago, and he vanished. We called around to the vets and shelters, thinking maybe the owner had contacted them and they told them where he was, but nothing. We hoped he had gone back home.

He showed back up here on Friday afternoon, looking extremely pleased to be back. We fed him well, but had a very busy day, so didn't spend a great deal of time playing with him, but he seemed to settle right back in. Figured I'd call around again on Monday, see if there was any news.

Well......when he was here last, I still had my pultry locked up in the building from the winter, in the meantime, I had turned them out loose and bought a new hen turkey. I came home from work yesterday morning, and there were feathers everywhere....including in the dog's mouth and all over him. I grabbed him and kenneled him up, and went searching for birds/bodies, as all I could find in the yard were feathers (some bloody). I am left with 2 rooster chickens, one hen chicken, my turkey tom and jake are OK, the new hen is limping but I think will be OK.

Set out on a new and more distant search for his owners, and ended up after talking to many distant neighbors finding where he belongs, several miles from here. As soon as I mentioned poultry, the guy just said, "Oh shit".....he knew what had happened. He and his son followed me back to my place, picked him up, apologized profusely, listened to my speech about microchipping, fencing, etc and paid me for the poultry he had killed (without my requesting he do so) before taking him home.

Stupid thing is, as upset as I was about my poultry, I actually felt bad for the dog.

His name is Butch, I guess.
