The subscription price needs some adjusting, though. I've been a subscriber for almost a year now. I signed up online for about $14 for a one year subscription. They keep sending me the subscription renewal notice with the special member renewal rate of only $28 for one more year of subscription. The problem is that I could just sign up online again as a new subscriber and get the same one year subscription for HALF the money. That's crazy. The established members should get the best discounts. At least that's how I think it should be.

(Of course, I think this is the only magazine I've actually PAID for in over three years. And it was worth every penny. Normally I just request a free subscription to whichever magazine I'm interested in receiving. Most of the time I get at least a free year of subscription. I wonder why I never tried it with Reptiles Magazine. Maybe I did. Who knows? I'm just kinda thinking out loud here. Sorry.)

I've been a subscriber for going on 10 years and I just recently had my first problem. I only received the front cover. It was ripped off in the mailing process. I called the publiser and they gave me the option of extending the subscription a month or replacing the missing issue. I opted for the replacment to keep the collection whole. They said it could take up to two months for the replacement issue to arrive. It only took approximately 3 weeks.

I just recently subscribed again. After waiting about 5 weeks, I recieved the August issue. Then the next week the September issue, and the week after that the October. Good Lord at this rate I'll have a years subscription by December. As for the condition of the magazines. Well one had the cover almost coming off, one was beat up and sealed in a bag?, and the other was in good shape. Is that the postal office's doing?

How are you getting free year subscriptions? I would like to know how to do that.

They offer two years for $28 at some of the bigger shows so that's where I tend to renew. I did that in Raleigh in April and I'm good until 2008.

Paul, are you still reading this thread? I have every issue of Reptiles mag back to like 1996 just sitting on a shelf here. I keep them because I know they have great info, but I NEVER EVER ONCE have had time to go back and read an old issue. I was even thinking of tossing them or donating them recently, in fact. If you want, you could tell me which issues you're missing and I bet I have them. I could mail them to you if you wanted to pay for the postage. I have no idea what postage might cost, from Oregon, USA to South Africa, but if you want them, my mags are yours!

I know this is an old quote...but since someone just brought it back to the surface...

This is the funniest thing I have read all DAY!!

And true, too!!

I have never missed an issue...and have been a subscriber for over 2 years.
The only reason I notice is they carry it on the counter at the local herp store...and I get in there around once a week for live feeders.

Since this is consumer reports, I shall voice my opinion. Reptiles magazine is out of touch with its readers. I still pay for the magazine subscription, but receive dates are quite arbitrary. I may receive two different issues at the same time, or go 2 months with nothing. I have a feeling that I am missing a few issues, but the reality is I just don't care enough to do anything about it.

The magazine is insanely useless, but serves as a great place to put ads. The lackluster information provided by the writers is often overlooked by the horrible photography and poor prints. I have Vivarium issues from 1995 that take a much more intellectual approach to reptiles as a whole, and tries to be academically involved (not to mention Vivarium used good quality prints). Last but definitely not least on my list of "issues" is the limited amount of snake/python/morph related info. Reptiles magazine is behind the times, and I think I just might de-lete. D+

I noticed they are doing a new setup where they have more articles now, so instead of three it's like five. Don't know about anyone else, but I don't care much for it. Now you get even less information on the article animals. Shoot the turtle issue gave only one page to the snapping turtle. That's not enough.
Talking about pictures. I wish they would take the time to make better pictures for the centerfold poster. ( I'm expecting a playboy comment will happen.)
