I think you'll notice that I keep putting "business" in quotes... I'm talking about the people that call themselves "<MyNameHere> Reptiles" and talk about their "business" when everyone knows they have a couple Ball Pythons in their basement and might sell a few babies to their local pet store. These are the types of people that have no money to spend running a business because, as I said, they're not really a business... they are a "pretend business".

Don't worry man, if I have something to say to you, you'll know...

(actually had someone say that to me once)
ah.. sole proprietorship... gotta love it. you get to pay taxes on the money TWICE for the whole self employment deal. blah. did contract work for a few years and the money from my primary job that I would have gotten as a 'tax refund' went to pay the tax owed for the contract work..even after doing all the legal expense deductions.

Technically it doesn't matter how much you sell.. ANY income you take in legally has to be recorded. gramma give you $25 for your birthday.. that's income. sell some stuff on ebay... that's income. cut the neighbor's yard... that's income. sold some lemonade.. that's income. The tipping point is when you total up all of your income and go through the process of filling out the tax form.. at some point you check the tax table to see if you crossed the line or not to determine if you owe any tax on the money you made... it's why the tax forms includes that line for "other income not already reported via w-2's, etc."

I still don't get it.............ad bumping is not ok unless you pay to do it? Now instead of seeing a whole bunch of ads over and over all I see is the paid customers ads over and over. Seems to be the same thing but atleast people saw more animals with everyone being able to bump.

What it was is a benefit of contributing was to have the bump/highlite feature. If people who pay see people getting freebies then why should they pay for the same service? You can look at it like the flea market, if u wanna be on the main isle then u gotta pay more. If u dont wanna pay that amount then pick a side isle. Its just economics, and im sure Rich dont wanna pay for this site outta pocket...

If u want just leave the ad with unanswered questions and answer them to get the free bump.

No. People got to see MORE of the SAME ads showing the SAME animals bumped over and over again.

Apparently some people are of the impression that if they keep on throwing their ads into the faces of viewers that eventually those viewers will get worn down enough to where they actually BUY the animals just so they can stop having to see those ads several times a day.

I chose to enforce the fact that I am offering bumping as a perk to paying members and denying that option to non-paying members. To those non paying members this has pissed off, well, I'm VERY sorry that my giving you the opportunity to advertise your animals on this site for FREE is just not enough for you.

I mean it's not like your not making money with all the ads or anything.......give me a break. Money is made on ads not "donating" members. And all I see now IS THE SAME ADS OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN, just now they are from people who paid to do it.

Wow and get all high and mightly on your internet throne why don't you. I find it funny that advertising for free here was fine until this so called "bumping issue" came to be. Other sites do a damn good job of keeping everything free with just ads and small donations. There is something else going on here and it has nothing to do with bumping. I smell something fishy. But it is the decision of the site so your going to do it no matter what people say.

Michael, you dont like it here, leave. and dont let the door hit your on your way out.

you still can create ads for free. just need to be a paid member to push them to the top. so you need to get off YOUR soapbox and stop waving your arms like an idiot with conspiracy theories.

I'm going to say it again...because maybe you didn't read so well the earlier parts of this thread. Show me another site anywhere on the 'Net where you can STILL advertise for FREE that has even 1/4 of the traffic and ad-exposure that this one does. You can't!

All those "other sites" are being run on a much smaller scale and have entirely different management needs, as well. I dare you to try and start up your own ad site...build it to tens of thousands of members with hundreds of thousands of visitors...and then run it like a site with less than 20,000 members and visitors. Go on...try it.

Gotta address this specific point. "No matter what people say"...what people? A few whiny malcontents that believe the world should be handed to them on a silver platter for free? People who give nothing and do nothing for the well being of the site, but demand all the perks and privileges of those who DO help out? What about all the people who WANTED controls on the excessive bumping issues? Don't they get a say in the matter? Which "people" are more worthy of being listened to? Hmmmm?
