I have always agreed with what most of you said. I know this is an old topic, but I need to vent too. Why should 80%+ of the population have to suddenly change the way we've always done things for minority groups, each one making up from 0.5% - 11% of the population. This is still a democracy. That means the majority of the people (who are here legally) decide how things should be. Period. Everybody has human and civil rights here. Everyone has a voice, but there is no possible way to accomidate all of these small groups' demands for change within a single nation. Why are we trying to? It seems like common sense to me, so wtf? What happened to this country? Why are we continuing to allow these groups to change us to fit their cultural agendas? Who are they anyway? If any of this $#!+ was voted on, there wouldn't be a need for a thread like this, because none of this nonsense would fly. Like it or not, this country is still 85% Christian, 80% English speaking (my guess?) and still a DEMOCRACY. That means if 85% of the people want to have the right to say the Pledge of Allegence, or hang the Ten Commandments, or keep traditions, then the 85% gets it. The other 15% spread out among a hundred different minority groups and lobbies have to respect the fact that this is how it has always been and still is. Be grateful that you are part of such a grand nation, with the freedom to do whatever you want to a reasonable extent, using common sense. Sure you might have to take the scarf off your face to take a photo for a government issued piece of identification, but is that so much to ask? Those are our rules. Rules are not suggestions. The rules were decided a long time ago and were agreed to be reasonable for the most part. You can't change the rules without a majority vote in a democracy. A Circuit Court judge is not the majority.
Well that's my thought at least.
Great posts to most: Marcia McGuiness, Rich Z, Seamus, Ritchie Luna, etc.
