Mite I know?

Hey,

Are mites and other external parasites common in lizzard (leos) keeping?
and
How and what do you use to eliminate and make sure the likely hood of their recurrence does not happen?

and yes i know keep the cage clean.

To my knowledge mites are pretty rare in leos. Most of the insecticides commercially marketed to kill mites are unsafe for geckos. Do you actually have a mite problem?

Mites are not at all common in leos..... There is a simple reason for this..... Mites do not like to be exposed for any period of time.... There are no overlapping scales on leos..... In other words, there is no place for the mites to hide while feeding..... I would not worry much about mites in a leopard gecko collection.....

use a heat treated substrate. or paper towl. if you goto a pet shop or some other place wash up well before you hold your leos, you might have some hitch hikers. good luck with your first leo!
