Any Suggestions??

One of our Hog females has this on both sides of her jaws in the same location.... looks like she is missing scales. We just thought it was strange that it is the same on both sides. Therefore eliminating any thoughts of scale rot or any other fungal issue.

Looks almost like a scar or possibly some other kind of defect. How long have you had her? Does she shed without any problems?

Sorta looks like a scar to me also. Don't know about the apparent discoloration though.

Notice the scales around the area are normal looking and overlapping like they should, whereas in the immediate area, you don't see any overlapping. This is typical of scarring.

Not to say that this is what it is, but it does have some resemblance to scars I have seen. Don't know how you get it on both sides though.

There isnt a single flaw anywhere else on her
I found a simular mark on one of our other males as well,same side of the head etc.Its just not as defined as on the female ?
They dont much care for the head restraint stuff,so getting a clear shot is pretty tuff.

Since they don't care for head restraint, do you think they could have stuck their head somewhere they shouldn't have (like a gap in a previous enclosure), got stuck and caused some scale damage when trying to pull out? Might explain why it is on both sides in the same spot. Just an idea

i was thinking along those lines as well
maybe there are some tight spots where they like to hang out
in the enclosure
with some rough or sharp edges
maybe a type of calass
that would explain the discoloration
the build up of the dermal layer would do that
just a thought

She is in a wide open 4' flat top Neo
Unless its from rubbing around the glass/cage front junctions ?She is a cruiser and has escaped twice since in our care.(locks installed now)She gets pretty restless after about 2.5 weeks coming up to feeding time but I dont think so much as to cause an injury ?

Ill try for a better pic and see if it shows anything ?

Hmmm. Neodesha's don't have very many spots to injure oneself on. Perhaps between the litter dam and the glass? About the only place I can even come close to thinking. If she is persistent enough, and keeps trying to wedge herself into the crack, it could cause some abrasions. Just a stab in the dark though.

Check her out after her next shed, and see if it is still discolored. Aurora was pushing so hard against the glass, she caused what looked like a blood blister on her nose. (looked normal except the discoloring) Of course, she later rubbed it completely OFF, so now it's a scab.

Is this a new arrival, or did this happen while in your care? Maybe she came like that?

Or perhaps rubbing against the center divider? Still just guessing.

Hope it all turns out good for her.

She has had several sheds since I first noticed and all her sheds are "perfect"(that area is easily found in the shed skin)

She is one of the 3.2 group we Rescued from that head.That whole group was pretty jacked -up. So careful visual inspections were done dureing rehab.
We're very impressed with their recovery and overall current condition,hopefully they'll return the favors with acouple nice healthy litters.
