I vote NEITHER if it's a first time monitor pet. Neither are a beginner species.

I have a sav, a Nile and a red tegu. I would say go with a savannah. The Niles take alot of paitence, work and they may never calm down. Niles are very skiddish. There will be times when you won't see them for days. My sav isn't as skiddish nothing like my Nile. Honestly Tyson my red is a big baby. And argentine tegus get big. He's never once attempted to bite the only thing he would do sometimes was gator roll, out of the three he's the most relaxed. Even when he was a baby.

Me and my boyfriend are also interested in getting a Savannah. My only question is that we have two cats we have had for about 3 years and if they would be ok together? We want to get a baby and tame it ourselves so that it can just hang around once big enough.
