What's the best?

I'm getting my set up ready for my first two Ball Pythons and am wondering what is the best "stuff" to get them. They will either be hatchings or yearlings. They'll be in glass aquariums with screen tops.

Which brand of UTH is the best?

Which type of overhead light? There are blue, red, normal, full spectrum, etc. And what wattage?

And what type of hides and how many?

Do you use a lot of cage decor or not? I've seen quite a lot of varying answers and assume it's owner preference really.

Oh, forgot to ask... What brand of thermostat?

The Thermostat depends. I use Zoomed and only own one Snake. The number of heating units you hook up to it the better you would want the Thermostat to be. IMO. The Zoomed is the cheapest. I've seen it for $30.00- $40.00. NEVER get an ESU! I think Johnsons and Rancos are next in the $60.00-$70.00 range and they go from there all the way to $250.00 I've seen.

Most Uths are good. I use Zoomed. I'm not to positive on glass tanks because I keep Lickity in a rubbermaid because they are better for humidity if you can keep them locked down. I also believe that the more compact ones can help lower the stress level of a finicky eater, and also doing things like covering the cage front so you can't see eachother. Some finicky eaters are way worse then others but you'll be lucky to NOT run into a Ball that doesn't fast sometime or another.

As for wattages in bulbs you will have to experiment. I know that higher wattage bulbs are for Winter and lower wattage bulbs for Summer but hows the room temperature in the room you will be putting her in? I know this new bed rooms temps and humidity from a weeks worth of Thermometer testing and I know the old bedrooms Temps are usually 70 to 75 and an average of 40% humidity. Blue and Red lights are good for night use and most of the time. I only use low wattage day bulbs in Winter when she isn't eating and I had it on a timer. Just make sure you buy a good digital Thermometer because those are life saving tools. AccuRite is a good brand. Jen Harrison would suggest it. lol Good luck!
