quick questions on gravid females.

About how long after mating should she lay her first clutch?

After she lays her first clutch should i place her with the male again?

Do gravid females become skiddish when about to lay?

and finally, Should a female lose weight while developing eggs? She was at 58 and is now at 56. Thanks to all and any replies.

I have read that it can take anywhere between 2 to 5 weeks for them to lay their eggs. I can't answer the other questions because I have never had any to be gravid. I have just started breeding them and I think that mine are gravid. They seem to be really lazy. They do seem to be a little more skiddish right now too.

I'm in my first season and currently have 30 eggs cooking and 10 hatchlings, I'll answer the questions off my personal experience.

1) Depending on if the gecko is ovulating when she mated will depend upon how long it will take. I have had a female drop 2 weeks after mating. Another female didn't drop eggs for about 3 1/2 weeks. It depends on the ovulation and the gecko. I've heard of it taking up to 6 weeks.

2) Depending on my breeder, I will put the male back in once a month. I've only done this with two of my breeders. All of my breeders are first time layers, so I am only going to let them go as long as they want to.

3) I've noticed some of my jumpier females to become more laid back the bigger they get and I've noticed some of my calmer females get more jumpy. I think this is a two way street and it can't really be generalized.

4) The only weight loss I've noticed is right after the eggs were dropped. After that, they seem to get their weight back very quickly. Talking about your one that dropped weight, are her eating habits normal right now?
