Does he need a friend?

I have an almost 5 month old beardie named Tank. He still runs from my hand but we are working on it. Recently I've been noticing him run to the end of his enclosure and wave to the terrarium of anoles I have nearby. I know this is a social behavior. Should I consider getting him a cagemate? The time I spend with him is usually chasing him around the cage trying to pick him up to hold him then it is chasing him through the living room and under the couch.....He is getting a little better at the handling thing. Any ideas? Would a cage mate help and is he lonley?

Dragons are perfectly happy without a cagemate. If you want to get another dragon, get another dragon, but not on the rationale that you are doing it for your first dragon. If you do get another one, I wouldn't put it in the cage with the first. At that young of an age, it's easy for one dragon to outgrow the other and start bullying and/or hogging food and basking areas. As far as waving at the anoles, I had one that waved at crickets before eating them.

I AGREE IT IS VERY EASY FOR ONE BEARDIE TO HOG THE FOOD WATER ETC.. SO I WOULD PUT THEM IN DIFFERENT ENCLOSURES ESPECIALLY IF U DIDNT BUY THEM TOGETHER AND THEY'RE AGGRESSIVE IF THEY ARE BOTH MALES

Thumbs up

2 females can be housed together , but not a good idea to put 2 males together. Iif you do decide to get another dragon , use a substantial quarentine period ( 60 -90 days) and house separately.

Remember that even healthy dragons can become ill ,which is why we quarentine, due to stress and relocation.

Also, if you have another dragon of opposite
gender, make certainn that they are kept apart from ages 6-18 months at least to prevent too early breeding which can be detrimental to the health of both dragons.
