Talking Trip to Cancun

Didn't know quite where to put this.

My father has asked if he could take my boyfriend and myself on a trip to cancun later this year second week of December and of course i said yes.

I'm all excited for this trip. I figured why i was in such a beautiful place i could sneak off and do some field herping. Can anyone recommend a good book to purchase and take with me so i could find some of the great native reptiles.

Thanks

Jamie Lowe

Hi-
The best book for you to acquire and take with you is A FIELD GUIDE TO THE AMPHIBIANS AND REPTILES OF THE MAYA WORLD, by Julian Lee. It's a paperback, probably about $25-35 at Amazon.com. Check out addall.com if you're interested in a used copy-
Good luck-
Eric

Yep, that is a good book...there are few good field guides to the reptiles of central america (they will include the Yucatan in them)...Quintana Roo has some really interesting places...be sure to visit Akumal (about 20k or so south of Cancun) for about the best snorkeling in the world (and great French onion soup, for some odd reason) and check and see if a place called "croco-cun" is still open...they had some iguanas that were startling in colour (red and yellows, blue and purple) last time I was there...(1989)
You should have a blast ! Expect iguanas and racerunners everywhere you look, the occasional green vine snake, and a fair amount of colubrids...we didn't see any vipers when we were down, but I was mostly interested in the fish, so if you search, you could be in for a real treat !
