Gliders and mealworms

I have found a nearby vendor of mealworms and will probably get some this weekend. How often do y'all with gliders feed mealworms and how many do you feed?

I used to give mine mealworms or superworms every other day or so, along with fresh fruits/veggies and the occasional pinky mouse. I also supplemented with Vitamins and calcium w D3.

It depends on what the diet consists of. If there getting another protein source I would recommend twice a week. To much protein in the diet can cause constipation. usually people consider the glider diet to be 30% protein and 70% fruits and veggies.

Mallory,

I appreciate you taking the time to write. After the ridiculousness of some of the posts on Glider Central I escaped here to see what people were actually doing, since no one really knows what is optimum for gliders.

On this thread and this area, if you make a prounouncement, I will ask you to back it up with specific factual citations, so if you want to do that for the above about percents and constipation, I am all ears. Please don't take this personally, but there were posters over on the site I mentioned that could not back up what they said even though opinions on glider nutrition vary widely, so what I ask, I ask for the good of the gliders.

However, those who want to tell me what they actually do (which is what I asked on this thread) are welcome to do so. I got involved with some stuff and couldn't get the mealies this weekend, maybe next weekend, but I'd like to hear how many mealies per week some people feed as a guide to how many to buy.

Lucille,

Now, I have tons of animals capable of eating mealies all the time, but I think it depends on how many Gliders you actually have. One thing I have noticed is that my gliders will eat EVERY mealworm that I offer them. Like you, I dont believe everything I read on "the other forum" so I have no problems using mealworms a few times a week considering that I give them other foods as well.

How I do it is I mix mealworms with their food like 3 nights a week. I look at a strictly mealworm night as me being too lazy to make their food, so I dont do it. If you have a couple gliders only, I would suggest keeping about 1000 on stock as they keep well in the fridge. I keep about 10000 on hand and they last me with all the animals that I have quite a long time. Hope this helps.

when you watch the last video, I use some mealworms in the mix but i mostly use them as treats for the gliders.
