Using Bait Fish As Food

What's the general consciences on feeding Hognose with bait fish? (or any snake for that matter) Anyone out there doing this? If so what type are you using? I've seen several videos of people feeding fish to reluctant feeders.

I've heard that many bait fish are riddled with parasites, so I'm just curious as to anyone actually using fish for food....not so much as a primary food source.....but as a supplemental food item.

If bait fish is not a good option, what about Sardines in fresh spring water? Anyone tried this?

If you don't want to post publicly, just email me....would really like to get some opinions on this....here lately not much activity so I'll try a couple different places.

I feed Silversides to my garters. No thiaminase worries and minimal parasite concerns as they're raised specifically as feeders for tropical fish.

I just got an 8 month old hognose yesterday, maybe I'll try him on one.

I'll warn you, the silverside smell very fishy.

I'm very interested in how it goes with him. Since frogs and toads are limited due to cost and such, I wanted to see if anyone was supplementing with fish. A bit of variation might be beneficial.

For what it's worth, I've never fed a snake fish, but I have used bait fish as feeders for years for other things and never had any problems from it.
I have a 13 inch or so Jaguar cichlid that enjoys live minnows when I get them, and have used them for small snapping turtles until they got too large to bother with them.
I don't know about sardines, something commercially canned like that I don't entirely trust.
I do keep a few bluegill from trips to the lake to feed a large alligator snapper, and buy catfish at the grocery store to feed her from time to time.
