New to Tegus

Hibernating tegus has nothing to do with temps. It is all about the lighting and the internal clock. My tegus go into hibernation here in August, the temps are still very warm (90s - 100s). You can start reducing the lighting time. This will help him get started in the hibernation process. If you are keeping the lights on for twelve hours, reduce the time to ten for a week, then eight, six, and then just turn them off. No heat is needed under the hide at all.

Ok. I guess I just assumed they would need cool temps to hibernate.

This is always though to be needed in tegus, but it is not the case in this species. They just about do everything themself.
