Question chickens as a supplament

I was curious how many of you out there use chickens as as alternative to rabbits? I find chickens useful with picky retics or animals that have been off feed for some time. your thoughts?

i think it is healthy to try and mix in different foods every now and then, in between rabbit feedings. i happen to have a couple retics that are very picky and tough to get on different prety items. i have one that is, or should be, easy to mix the variety up every so often.

i used to mix in chickens when i was low on rabbits, every once in a while. The only problem i have with them is that the after "product" is SOOOOOO messy. You see they dont digest the quill portion of the feather and they get EVERYWHERE. But she loved them for sure. She was just as eager to feed on chickens as she was on GP's, piglets and rabbits.

I never really noticed an issue with the quills but you are definately right about messy. The soupy bi-product isnt that fun to clean up.

Back when I had a big retic, I made the mistake of picking up a few ducks for her at the livestock auction...OMFG!!! She crapped quills for over a week, and (quills aside) what a nasty, foul smelling mess. Never did it again.
