Hatching green frog tadpoles

Hello everyone! I'm new here but not new to keeping critters, which I have done most of my life! I recently caught 6 green frog tadpoles (not 100% sure, but almost positive they are green frogs). One is growing arms and legs, and I have decided that I want to keep one or two of them and let the rest go at our neighbors pond where we found them. I have a 40 gallon tank I want to use, and figured I'd split a portion of it so it's part land and water. I have an idea of how I want to do it but I am looking for suggestions from experts! Thank you for any responses in advance! P.S. When is it time to remove the frog from the all water tank and place it into a part land and water tank? Thanks again!

Welcome to the forum, so glad you could join! : )

I hope I can help answer some of your questions.
First off you mentioned that you want to keep a couple. Sounds like an awesome idea, just make sure its legal first. Keeping wildlife, even common species, can be illegal in some states.

40 gallons is a pretty good size. Green frogs can get quite big, but for now they'll be fairly small "pollywogs" and you can always upgrade if need be. Splitting if half and half is smart. Frogs enjoy land, but they enjoy water even more, so perhaps a third land and two thirds water would be better. Also, make sure the water is deep enough they feel secure while in it. Shallow water will only make them antsy.

Place some floating plants, wood, or a shelf in the cage with the tadpoles. When they start to climb out onto these regularly, you can move them. At this point, they'll be breathing air and it will be important for them to have a perch they can rest on.

Best of luck! : )
