I know. I'm just being weird. My favorite hobby is keeping snakes, particularly the unusual ones. Goes without saying most will consider me (us) odd :-)
Anyways, I've decided to keep the collection small (two, maybe three) so I'm wanting/looking for the ones I'm most interested in. Got a couple choices. First choice you now know, second choice (if I can't find first choice in the next two or three years) I'm working on deciding still. I like snakes with super strong feeding responses (like indigos or worse). No deadly venomous though. I'm not experienced enough, nor interested enough to keep anything deadly.

Clelia

Sounds like a good plan, Thane,

Clelia spp. should be right up your ally, as would D. c rubidus. Also, I wouldn’t count out Pseudaspis cana either..

I didn't know the mole snakes had that nutty feeding response. I undertstand that they have pretty powerful jaws and therefore a nasty bite though. I'd want more info. on them. I'm looking into hydrodynastes too. Just considering the options.

African Mole Snakes

P. cana do have a powerful bite, much like that of Drymarchon. They also harbor an incredibel feeding response and are generalists too, accepting most any food items offered.
They give live birth and are capable of producing 50 plus babies per litter.
The Hydrodynastes gigas are a lot of fun. Just watch for the hood, once one begins hooding, it means business. Otherwise, they are generally docile and quite handleable..

Hmmm

Not certain why that paragraph broke so soon, the "they" I was referencing, are the P. cana!
Also, forgive the way I spell you (yuo) as I tend to become dyslexic whil typing, not to mention, my fingers are blind..

Thumbs up Ahoy!

Hey everyone,

Quick post - but I just wanted to say hey and let you know you've snagged another board member (read about this one at the "old board"). I've nosed around and this seems like a real cool board.

I myself am a relatively new indigo owner (an almost five month female I got from Rob Carmichael).

Stay around...

It's a little slow right now. Holidays, freezing cold weather and snake maint. going on right now. Things will pick up eventually though. Just keep checking in.

Freezing??

Thane,

It's 70*F where I'm at! No freezing weather here for a while to come.
Not only maintenance going on, this is breeding season for Drys!
How about sending some of that cold weather my way!
It's sad, having to use the A/C to chill my herp rooms in the winter, so my native Drys will feel "frisky"...

Whoops!

Sorry Josh!

I forgot to welcome you aboard! It's great to have you here.
Congratulations on the acquisition of a young Eastern from Rob. He produces some great animals...
