Individual cities have more specific regulations as far as maximum length, no venomous, or even not allowing them at all.

They do.. its county to county I believe.. most cities you can't own any snake over like, 4 foot (or something ridiculous like that), and I know there are a lot of other little things..

I know when I worked at Petco in Coon Rapids a few years back, Dart frogs were illegal in that county..

so it is all county to county

I'm lucky... in my city the only thing that they prohibit is venomous.

How does one find out which herps are prohibited in their county? I do alot of 'living back and forth' between Cass, Hubbard, and Beltrami. Aside from the occasional 'wild rescue', all I keep are various treefrogs, mostly Vietnamese varieties, no darts.

I'm way up north, so I pretty much just end up being "the weird gecko kid" and that is it. I personally think part of why there isn't as much concern in MN is because it (usually) gets cold enough where anything nonnative and cold blooded dies off during the winter. The venomous regulations would solve more of the "at that exact moment" issues. I don't have much interest in venomous animals though, so maybe not my place to say. All I can say is that we have been fairly lucky so far. Hopefully it doesn't get worse...
