Sorry about all these hoops to jump through, but I am quite serious about blocking spammers and scammers at the gate on this site and am doing the very best that I can to that effect. Trust me, I would rather be doing more interesting things with my time, and wouldn't be making this effort if I didn't think it was worthwhile.

It is when the male sex organ stays outside of the vent..... Usually brought on by breeding...... Sometimes it happens for no reason....... If it is exposed for too long it can dry up and in some cases needsa to be amputated...... If caught early and treated, there are usualy no serious problems......

prolapse
There are several theories on why males can have prolapsed hemipenes, and some of them are:
- gecko is fat, too much adipose tissue around the vent area
- residual dried feces and/or urates in the cloaca
- residual seminal plugs (dried semen) in the cloaca or surrounding the hemipenis
The idea is to reduce the swelling of the hemipenis so in will invert properly, and by soaking them in heavy sugar water (hypotonic water) helps pull the excess inflammation and moisture out of the tissues. I have also heard of people using ebsom salts, but never tried it.
