Preventing grain mites?

Is there anything that can be done to prevent an outbreak of grain mites? Will freezing or baking all the grain products prior to use kill the "dormant mites eggs"?

I know if everything is kept dry and well ventilated, I won't have these mites problem, but it really is extremely humid over here (March-April), the average humidity is hitting 95% everyday...even my dubia colony with no substrate is now infested with mites!

I baked everything in the cages when it comes in if it is a wood product.. You can also put a dose of PAM in the cage to provent outbreaks...

The mites operate in cycles. So just keep wiping everything down to try to keep the population from escalating. Eventually it will plateau and then you won't see any mites again for awhile (assuming the cage is relatively clean).

Baking is an excellent form of killing dormant egg's. I bake all my cage deco, my wood shaving substrates, etc.. in 180 degree's for 20 minutes or so. I ran into a bad instance of gnats with Cypress mulch one time, that will be enough for you to bake EVERYTHING wooden in your house LoL.
