Al,

I ship nationwide in the cold like that in insulated boxes, with heat packs. If you want to make sure a little more that the animal arrives well, you can ship it to the customer counter of the carrier and mark to keep the box inside and keep warm and then the box will stay inside in the temperature controlled environment.  This is what I do when shiping tduring the winter when the temps are a little colder than I like to ship to the house/business.  This is also how I ship my Chameleons during the summer month with cool packs.

Al,

The key to shipping in cold weather is obviously a styrofoam lined cardboard box and a heat pack. WAL-MART carries 18 h heat packs (they are in the hunting department) that cost $1.97 for a pack of 3. One of those is enough to maintain the temp in 12x12x12 for overnight shipping. If you drop your box at the counter as suggested, let's say at 4 pm you will make sure the reptile arrives still warm by noon next day.

Al,

The number of holes depends on how many animals I am shipping in the same box (5 -10 holes). Piercing the Styro lid with a pencil or any other object does the trick. In general I do not poke holes in the cardboard box. The only thing I do is just tape once accross the top, thus leaving plenty of air circulation under the flaps. If you want to add additional holes you can poke them with the pencil in each of the top four corners of the box. Never had a problem shipping that way.

Hope that helped.
