Rat Rack help with Harlan chow

So I've reveiwed a few rat rack threads on here but still have a problem. I use Harlan rat chow and it is to large to fit through the 1/2 inch hardware cloth that I looked to purchase but 1" is too big. What size do any of you use that feed Harlan? Thanks for any help you can offer, I have all the other materials and the time just need the screen.

I use 1/2" and it's fine. The rats will break it into smaller pieces with their teeth. I also use Harlan (now called Native Earth) and haven't had a problem.

Right - they eat it through the hardware cloth. If the pieces went through the holes, the food would end up intermixed with soiled bedding...not the best plan for healthy rodents.

Thanks guys and yes the retail version is now Native Earth, but my supplier buys in bulk from a wholesaler(1000lbs) and I beleive that it's still just Harlan. Really appreciate the advice. Was looking at 19 gauge, do you guys have any preference?

I'll check when I get home but I used the 24"x10' roll from Lowes.

I forgot I took a picture of the label. It's 19 guage and I haven't had one problem.

They sell it by the foot at Agway for 1.10/ft so I'll grab what I need there. 5 bins so I'll grab 16 ft. Thanks
