I just bought a pair of striped house snakes.

This page is helpful, but I don't know if I agree with everything. It's kind of the monopoly on information on them on the net.

They do have some nice pictures of different morphs though.

I believe Cherryville Farms is working with them as well.

Brenda, what don't you agree with on the housesnake page?

Well, the main thing I've read on that site that I don't agree with are the temperatures listed for housing house snakes.

I tried to keep my striped house snakes at the temperatures recommended (with temps as high as 90 on the hot end) and one of them went off feed until I contacted Cheryl Bott (is she Cherryville Farms?) who I bought them from and she recommended lower temperatures and regular misting. The same week I changed the temps and started misting, my snake went back on feed and has had much cleaner sheds.

I also read even lower recommended temperatures for house snakes than Cheryl Bott gave me, so I'm a little confused about what the ideal would be. Whatever works, I guess.

House Snakes

Hi everyone,

I saw the post on the house snakes and thought I would reply, we here at Cherryville Farms have been working with hosue snakes for about 10 years now and find them really a lot of fun. We currently are producing about 8 different color phases of the Africans including albino's which we find really cool. We are in the process of producing hets for albino of all the color pahses to see which one looks the best, so far the white sided lace pattern ones are the coolest to us. Anyone needing information on husbandry and/or breeding of them is welcome to contact us and we will be glad to help with whatever information we can. Vince Scheidt of Califonia got us started with these guys, but we arn you they are habit forming LOL.

Adult House Snakes

Lefty,

adults are hard to find unless one of three things has happened:

1. they are imported wild caught animals.
2. They are old breeders or have had some kind of a problem like egg retention. etc.
3. Someone has too many of them and is looking to reduce the colony of them. This seldom happens as they sell so well and people that have them normally have folks waiting in line for them.

My suggestion to you would be to buy some hatchlings from someone and raise them yourself. That way you will be getting exactly what you want as far as color, pattern etc. and will know the exact age of the animals. It may take a little longer, but the end result will eb much better for you. I did sell one trio of adults last year and they were fone within 2 days of posting them, I just needed a little cage space and them were the chosen ones. LOL. Good animals but that was the first time in 10 years of working with these guys.

Good Luck,
