Conservation Efforts?

Hi everyone,

I'm fairly new here so please let me know if this post is in the appropriate forum.

I just bought an updated field guide for Reptiles and Amphibians. In reading, I notice several species now endangered that were not years ago. Obviously a lot of this is the result of habitat destruction and other factors that are out of the hands of herp hobbyists.

But I'm wondering how the reptile community is helping the situation and better yet, what can I do? Dumeril's Boas seem fairly common in the pet trade but they are endangered in their natural habitats. I'm no biologist, but is there anyone out there who is participating in cooperative captive breeding for conservation of species? I don't know if this is a viable solution because I am sure it would be difficult to re-introduce captive species into the wild.

Thanks for any info.
