DRAGON WONT EAT BY HIMSELF

HI my dragon ( killer) has been on antibiotics for protozoa flagellates yeast
also for blood in his poo from me feeding a roach that was too big , had poo test and found out about parasites

baytril , panacur , Metronidazole, liquid paraffin was the treatment

all this is over 6 weeks he has started to become more lively and not just laying there all day , he was on a baby food critical care avipro plus mix for about 4 weeks , a week after the antibiotics finished 1 week later i stopped his baby food mix and tried live food . he will not chase them and catch or take from my hand ! but will sit there with his mouth open and i put them in and he does the rest ( lazy shit ) . i have also been giving him 0.2 ml twice a day of Acidophiliz+ which im going to use for two weeks like suggested .

how can i get him to start eating for him self ? i have cut the amount down i have been giving him today he had
1 morio
1 locust small
1 wax
1 butter worm

normally he will have 3-4 of each , butter worms are new today , normally have roach

i check his weight every day which is , and gaining
529 grams
lenght 19 inch
age 7 months

i put the bugs in a shallow bowl so i can keep check on whats going in and out but he does not touch them mixing with calicum with d3 and every other day, zoo med calcium d3 with rep cal Herptivite Multivitamin
4 days calcium 3 days calicum and Herptivite Multivitamin

i have just sent off some new poo test so should hopefully will no by friday if he is clear

should i just keep him on reduced bugs and Acidophiliz+ and see if he starts eating and keep an eye on his weight in case it starts dropping a lot

or keep feeding as normal until i find out the results of his new poo test then try and cut him back cause he has only been of the antibiotics a couple of weeks and he just needs time to recover from all the drugs pumped through him

a few pics of him first is him normal nice and alert second is how he is some of the time looking like he has no energy and lifeless

You need to get probiotics from the grocery store, some come in pills some come in powder, some chewable, it is all the same. Crush it and blend with some good fruit juice. Give the dragon this a few hours after you give it antibiotics. It does not need to be on the panacur and flagyl every day during this treatment, it may even be unnecessary. Flagyl is every 4 days as needed and panacur every day (? It has been a very long time since I looked at this medication). They are very safe medications and not harmful. Probiotics will make his belly feel better. Keep your cage very clean or you are just tramazing the lizard for no reason Poop is part of the parasites circle of life, if poop dries and isn’t sterilized the parasites can go back into your dragon.

After treatment maybe let him brumate?

Nevermind, I just saw how old he is. It is still not unheardof for a 8-10 month old dragons wanting to brumate.

i am using acidophiliz + which is a probiotic in liquid form , also the antibiotics have finished 2 weeks ago . i also keep the viv clean , i clean with f 10 spray every weekend and were he poo's i spray that area and clean with f 10

im asking how to get him to start eating by himself and not by placing things in his open mouth

thanks

Maybe a higher wat bulb kick up the heat alil and try soaking? My leather trans is the same way but he eats than slows down once he poops he's running around like crazy. He's very diff than my other dragons. He seems to have a slower metabolism for some reason...

I had a hard time understanding what you are looking for or saying in your first post. Apologies! He does not need the pro biotics anymore; he only needs it once or twice after treatment. It could aid in his digestion but he is not eating much now so consider taking a break from it and see how he fairs. He may also be ready to brumate. When winter meets us the dragons can feel the air pressure and their clocks tell them to brumate.

He is also a big boy, and they often go off feed for short periods of time for other reasons like mating or there is no need to eat because his growth has slowed. Many of my adult dragons eat sparingly and it was tough to accept watching them consume a lot of food while they grew. As long as he is not losing weight and he is cleared from the vet no worries. Dragons do as they please most of the time. Sub adult dragons get picky also, it is a pain but very common for their appetites to decrease at this age

What's his actual basking temperature?

The thermometer in the picture only tells you that the cage wall is 80 degrees which is fine for an ambient temperature.

The dragon appears to have good body weight in the pictures.

hi i forgot to say about day temps basking rock is 103-108 middle is 87-90 cool end 77-80

night temps range from 63-68

i have also checked his weight today which is 512 grams so dropped 12 grams from friday to sunday

but have only been giving a few bugs trying to make him feel hungry and have to eat himself . he has also done 2 poo's saturday and sunday . before that it was wednesday so he is starting to get back in a routine of going to toilet , since he came off baby food mix he has not been going every day , but i have been told it would take a few days for his stomach to fill up withh him only just coming back on live food which has been 10 days today .

but still will only eat when i put things in his mouth when he opens it , im also going to stop the Acidophiliz+ today cause its making him go hypo he keeps jumping at the viv doors and jumping at the lights strip and he was going to jump into basking light . im going to move basking light tomorrow on to the ceiling of the viv so he wont be able to reach . you can see from picture were it is now on the side at top . viv is 4' x 2' x 21" inch high

thursday at 5 pm i rang the lab to see about the results i was told that everything was clear except the yeast which had got a lot worse , they said it was a massive amount and to ring the vets and get some nystatin for 5 days.

i phoned the vets and the receptionist said she will ask the vet to ring me as she was busy , 2 mins later the receptionist phoned back and asked me to send the results through as the vet needs to see them , i explained the final result would only be sent by email friday as it was not finished waiting for samanella . and need to speak to the vet she said she might ring thursday if not first thing friday , next day never so i phoned at 11 and asked to speak with the vet , got told she had seen the results and will phone soon , i phoned again at 2 oclock still never got to speak with her , phoned again at 4.30 after work said the vet will ring soon . got home and read the email

phoned the vets again at 5.30pm and got told the vet is still busy, but will try and phone before they close at 6.30pm . i told them i am coming to the clinic and i want some nystatin i dont need to see the vet , the vets is 30 miles away and i use them as they are supposed to be an exotic specialist !!

when i got there there was a bottle of nystatin with a note from the vet saying how much to give 0.5ml 3 times a day ! i said this seems very high and was told its fine .

i rang the breeder ( mark pickstock fire and ice uk representive) who i got him from and asked him if he had used it he said he would check how much is needed 1 ml per kilo of animal per day for 5 days !! killer is 522 grams so that means he should have 0.5 ml once a day not 0.5 three times a day . over 7 days like the vet said would be 10.5 ml
5 days 0.5 is 2.5 ml thats a massive difference

he has not pooed since last sunday so if he goes tomorrow then takes another week. and it takes him another week to poo he will could have 10.5 ml in his body

has anybody on here used this
