Id just like to say thanks for all the replies and kind words from everyone my decision to come clean didn't come easy, but if my experience helps someone to think twice before they buy there first HOT then it was Worth the embarrassment it was a dumb mistake, that could of cost me my life, not to mention it would be bad press for the reptile community. I assure you the next time I do anything with HOTS, I'll make sure its at a safe distance behind a camera lens. LOL

Bill,

May I make a suggestion?
It is a true fact that those who are proactive about their health care, GET better health care.

I suggest you make a list of what you think the local hospital should have and what the ER physicians should either know, or have available to them as information right there at the ER.

Go talk to the chief of staff. If he agrees, go home and put what you agreed upon in writing and copy it to a couple other people also so that there is no chance of it getting buried and forgotten.

Then two weeks later, go up and check to see if what you would need is there. If not, write another letter, and enclose a copy of your original letter, and send the packet to your local newspaper, your attorney, and of course to the hospital administrator.

If everything IS pretty much done, send a nice thank you letter.
It may help you, and you may be helping others also.

No I'm not about to get back into venomous keeping anytime soon, I do admit the Passion is still there, but at this time I dont have the space for a Hot room, I only have one herp room so obviously that's the reason that I got out of keeping hots last year, I realy think they need to be in there own locked room, imo venomous and non venomous in the same room is just asking for it!

Anyway for-now I'll stick to getting tagged by boa's & pythons

Thankfully after all of the ordeal, I knew I got a dry bite and left.
They were more concerned about paperwork and treatment that would CAUSE MORE damage than the bite than listening and reading the protocol book I brought with me.
Turns out I had to fit the bill (thousands of dollars) since the insurance denied it. I was ripped. Make me pay for their botched care.
Good luck to you. I can sympathize. Sometimes accidents happen and you hope the medical professionals can help. Too bad most can't.
Forget curing you, you're lucky in some ER's that they just don't flat out kill you.

I've seen both sides - excellent care that absolutely made the difference and sub-par care that indeed led to the patient's demise.

Envenomations are problematic from the word go because ER's just don't see the volume that would make them adept in responding to such situations.

If you had a choice in a similar situation - I would choose a trauma center - largely because the level of acuity in those types of facilities is much greater and demands a much more intense and focused approach to care.
