Question New leo owner

Ok I just got a leopard gecko yesterday and Im totally freaking out. Ive done all my research and I picked the healthiest one. I everytime I see him, he hasnt eaten, drinking, and hes always awake. Is this normal?

Samantha, he just needs some time to settle in. Try to leave him alone as much as possible over the next few days. I would suggest that as long as it looks healthy, not to even offer food for two days. Make sure the warm side is about 90 degrees and he has a good spot to hide. Let him get comfortable in his new surroundings and then he can get to know you. LOL
You will both be fine.

I agree with Jeremy. But make sure you are measurring the floor temps not the air temps. As he said 90 degrees on the warm side, but anywhere between 88 and 95 is good, and the cool side should be between 75-80.

I also have another question.....

He seems to have little white spots like grains of sand on him, but even when I try to wipe it off, its stuck there. Can it be part of his coloration or is he dry? I misted him yesterday.

Does his color seem dull and dry? Sound like he will be shedding soon.

Yeah he is dull, i thought maybe it was just his color.

What should I expect with the shedding? How many times a day do I need to mist him, and is one of thoses moist box things necessary?

thank you guys for all of your help!

Moist hide is a must!

Is this a baby? What is the substrate you are using?

That's good. If he was a baby, I would say to use paper towels and mist the viv once a day to help with shedding. But since he's a sub-adult he should be fine with a moist hide privided 24/7.
