How do you pick out a lawyer?

This isn't reptile related~ so I guess it belongs here~ Those of you that "have a lawyer"~ how do you pick one out? Open the phone book and just blindly point to one of the DOZENS and DOZENS in the yellow pages?

I *think* I need a lawyer to advise~ cuz I'm at my wits end in a defective product dispute~ (I say the product is defective and they need to take it back~I've given them plenty of oppurtunity to repair but they just leave me sitting for HOURS waiting on repair men that don't show up~ they say no~ they won't take it away.) but I don't want to get into more trouble picking out a bad lawyer than I already am in having picked out a bad retailer!

And BTW~
Sun West and Phoenix Spa's are defective peices of crap! (Opinion based on large, expensive peice of crap where I wanted a hot tub)

Well, when my dad died four years ago and I needed an estate lawyer, I didnt know what exactly to do. I ended up speaking to my dads realtor and the "how do I get a lawyer" question popped up. She reccomended chatting with her husband, since he is an estate lawyer, amoung other things. After chatting briefly, and discussing payment plans, he fit the bill. I'd guess you should ask around the people you know or friends for friends of friends. A lot of lawyers actually find new clients through word of mouth from satisfied clients, especially those willing to trade services instead of money, just like mine.

That's not much direct help, but maybe it could help. "Insert shrug smiley here".

Simple for a DUI lawyer hit up the local bars for drunk lawyers. Chances are he or she has gotten themselves out of a couple so should be able to help you. For criminal defense hang around the local jail and see how many visits one makes in a week.

Have you checked lawyers.com? There should also be a local referral number you can call to find a lawyer that fits your needs.

I agree that you should ask around. There are some really fantastic lawyers who don't have big advertisements because they run small, independent law firms.

The best way to pick out a lawyer is through the end of the scope on your rifle.

Just joking folks....just a joke.
