I think that many of the funny cars never even really used any parts of the cars that they resembled. The body shape of the original was mostly just a template to be used, and the body was made from a single moulding of lightweight material and just draped over the frame and drivetrain.
Interesting that this comes up, as Connie and I went to the Garlits Drag Racing Museum outside of Ocala, Florida today to meet up with a whole bunch of Corvette enthusiasts and tour the museum. Pretty darned interesting place, if you are into that kind of thing. We just wanted to get the heck out of here this entire weekend before things start getting bogged down with the animals again. They came out of brumation weekend before last, so "fun" time is about over with for this year.
