Question Small Pond (what to stock?)

A few quandaries:

-Will goldfish survive in a pond over the winter?
-Are there any freshwater eel types that can survive in a pond in NC?
-How many is too many catfish?

Thanks a bunch!

A few quandaries:

-Will goldfish survive in a pond over the winter? Not really. They are not as good at wintering as koi and most people bring them inside to avoid them freeing.
-Are there any freshwater eel types that can survive in a pond in NC?I've never heard of someone keeping eels in a backyard pond before. They are predatory and would most likely eat your other fish.
-How many is too many catfish?Depends. How large is the space. Also, they are tropical so an outside pond would not be the best habitat for them

I am not talking about a backyard pond persay. I actually do plan to build one little pond about 8' in diameter though, but what I am talking about is a very good sized fish pond. The thing is that I definitely want catfish in it, but I don't know what I want to put with them. I was just reading about Koi before I read your reply, catfish and Koi would be competitive though wouldn't they? both being bottom feeders. Now that you know that I am talking about a big pond though, what do you say about the eels. Would they be bad enough to kill off all of my baby catfish and such? I assume they can't kill decently sized catfish?

Thanks. Sorry for the confusion.

Anyone have any suggestions for a fish to put with the catfish, preferably not a bottom feeder or something dull, but open to any suggestions, please feel free to give me ideas.
