Going for a new build...

Sorry, I know this picture is generic, but I have limited paint/graphic skills on a computer. But I have a new cage in mind. Idea #1) Build a cage system, that has a base, maybe only 6in tall to get them off the ground, then a 6x2x1 cage on bottom for my big girl, then 6 or 7 cages stacked on top, measuring 4x2x1 for my adult males and females. Then on the right side, to fill in the 2ft gap that is the height of the cage system, I will add a rack. This will make the wife happy, as it will take up less room than what I am using now. I have even thought about adding a shelf up top for storage (8ft ceiling). What do you think of this first idea? I will post second idea after getting feedback on this system.

I assume that the 4x2x1 cages are swing door cages and the rack to the right are tubs? If this is the case, I would personally not like the height of the rack. I'm 6' tall and a rack that high i couldn't see into without a ladder/stool. Granted there are lots of stackable racks that go higher than that, I just personally would not want it. So height is something to consider here. Do you feel comfortable reaching above your head to get snakes out of their cages or to clean the cages?

Other than that I LOVE the design. If you stain the wood used for the front, it will look very nice and clean.

I agree. But I have a step ladder! lol.

Actually. I have thought this through. I have a cage that requires me to get up on a step ladder now, And I believe I may go 1 cage shorter on this new one. The racks I am not worried about, there will be a small enough boa in that tub that a bite will be ok. Here is option 2. A little shorter. Maybe closer to my end result. Who knows.

I would worry about the 6' span on the bottom cage holding up to all the weight on top.

I had the idea of maybe only making it 6 cages tall, with the larger cage on bottom. The bottom cage I am going to play with size. I want to add a shelf in there for her to have some extra floor space, the shelf will second as a support for the middle portion of cage on bottom. Also, how I plan on going about the build should add extra strength as well. I am going to use 1/2'' or 3/4'' premium grade plywood (already sanded) that is used for cabinet making etc. Let me post a picture of how this will piece together.

Here is a quick, general idea of how I MIGHT put it together. Then again, I may make the 6ft cage seperate and place on a shelf.

Do you see how I will attach both the back pieces together? To make a 6ft tall cage that can be up too 8ft wide, but I will cut them out to make them 6ft long. OR, if I decide against the larger cage at the bottom, then I will just have 1 sheet cut down to make a 4x6 back and so on.

I think this will be a much more simple way of building new cage. What do you think? Build 6ft cage seperate, to prevent future problems with weight issues.

If my current cage does not sell I am going to make some improvements on it. What do you think?
