HELP WITH HEATING

As most of you know im just getting into bp. I am having a problem with temps.
i am using the 4'' flexwatt and my helix is at 88 F. i taped the thermometer to the flexwatt as it says to do how ever, when i use my temp gun it is reading 78 F in all tubs. BIG DIFFERENCE. i have pegboard on the back of my rack. i tried the thermometer on the top but then my temps go to 102F in the tubs
(snakes were not in it when i tried)
here is a pick of my rack. I build it for about 140. am i not supposed to tape it to the flex watt? Cause i Sure as hell dont want to cook my snakes.
help will help. seems like one problem after another.

Forget the temperature the thermostat says, read the thermometer temp and adjust the thermostat accordingly.
Using your temp gun just keep reading the hot spot temp till it gets where you want it.
On my melamine rack my A419 reads 99 degrees to achieve 92 degree hot spots.
The probe gets taped to the flexwatt

Belly heat works better than back heat. You have to really crank the heat tape when placed on the back of the tub rather than the bottom. I'm not sure where you have out placed by looking at your picture.

You'll still need the thermostat up higher than 88 to get hot spots at 90ish and a decent ambient in the cool end.
