Question about BOI posts

Why is it that everyone jumps down someone's throat if they do not post emails / proof on bad guy posts, but when it's a good guy post anyone can post anything without anyone jumping on their case asking for proof? Outside of the "slander" I think it is extremely easy for someone wanting to get a little reputation boost to make a new forum account through a proxy and making a "good guy" post.

That's a good point, though I am not sure how practical it would be to request everyone who states they had a transaction to post proof. If you did not have problems with the transaction, why would you keep proof of everything?

While the scenario you outlined may have happened in the past (do a research of the BOI), these kinds of "tricks" tend to backfire from what I've seen.

The very nature of the BOI is that we can post experiences even on the Good Guy threads...so anyone trying to go that route (using proxies to post fake GG threads) risks having a lot of bad information (if any) revealed about them, too... and usually quite early in the thread.

So, imo....anything worth revealing is revealed early enough for members to determine whether the "sellers" are actually good guys or not. That's why the kinds of posts you've mentioned tend to backfire.

I think there is a simple answer to this. With a bad guy post, the person pointed to as being a bad guy can possibly suffer damage to their reputation by such posts, so people wish to see evidence to support such claims in order to try to make certain that the claim is justified. Now when it come to a good guy post, well, that really isn't all that critical and certainly people aren't all that concerned about the validity of the claims.

But many times bogus positive claims are found out, and as has been mentioned, this sort of thing can really put a load of egg on the perpetrator's face. It's lying, plain and simple, and certainly makes a person engaging in such a thing look unethical slimy. But yeah, some will get away with it, but some won't. Want to take that kind of chance with the herp world being as small as it is?

I tend to agree with Webslave.

However, I understand for your own privacy purposes you can't always provide the proof you need to provide, in that case I don't think it's right to jump down anyone's throat. This is afterall a forum. People have their opinions and express them on a daily basis here. If you have a bad transaction with someone and feel as though you need to post about it you should be free to do so without the "wrath" of others falling down on you. Just post it. People will either take your experience to heart or they won't.
