Australian Water Dragon maybe? - EDIT nope they woudn't have that long white stripe on the side. Might be a brown basilisk lizard

Absolute April is correct, that does appear to be a Brown Basilisk.
They are an introduced species in Florida.

Yeah, a basilisk was my guess too.

Thanks everyone for helping.
I think you're very likely correct.
Just within the hour I saw it again
and got some far better photos.
See for yourself.

Is this lizard introduced because it
has/had a place in the pet trade?

Those pictures are upside down for some reason (does that ever happen to anyone else on this site?) but you get the idea.
Not sure why that happened; sorry.

Definite basilisk. The head shape alone gives it away. As far as how it ended up in Florida, I'll just say that some Florida invasives have their roots in the pet trade, but others, especially Latin American species, show up accidentally on boats and such. I believe brown anole is an example. The house gecko is found all over the world for this reason.

If you can, please submit your sighting to HerpMapper.org/submit. Knowing current locations of these invasive exotics and keeping track of how they spread is of conservation interest.

Awesome sighting of a basilisk! Though introduced (and others would say "invasive", lol) , I would love to see one here. Thanks for sharing.
