inconsistent clutches...

I'm curious...why do some females lay clutches like clock work and others seem to be extremely sporadic...varying as much as two weeks compared to their previous clutches?

And, have any of ya'll had females that change from year to year? I have a few girls that laid clutches like clockwork last year, but this year they are all over the charts...and visa versa...

thanks for any input

I know what you mean. I had a female lay two clutches exactly 2 weeks apart and then she went on strike for about a month. She laid more this morning. I think it has to do with diet and/or calcium. If they have enough calcium or nutrients to "brew" another batch then they will...if they feel they need a break after laying two clutches close together they'll take a break. This is just a guess so don't quote me on this. I think I've heard something about this before but I can't remember all that was said. Someone else could probably help you out more.

Thanks Katie...I would think you're right. I also wonder if temperature has much to do with it? The temperature in my gecko room fluctuate somewhat and it seems like they either go on strike or all lay the same night! Could just be a coincidence

Ive noticed that some of my first timers are laying like clockwork while others are going haywire laying at 18 days then 27 then 14. I did change their dust from mineral O to herptivite a couple of weeks ago so I wonder if that will make a difference.

And the ones that eat more pinks seem to lay more consistent too.

Well it seems that I was somewhat right..lol. I guess they are just real smart lizards and can tell when is a good time to lay .
