Snake ID please

I found this little guy in my backyard a few minutes ago. We were getting together some scrap metal, I lifted up a piece of aluminum and there he was.
I'd appreciate some ID help. I can't do the research right now because we have to get this metal together before the recycle place closes.

BTW, he's about eight inches long.

Both replies are exactly correct. We have them around here. Cool little worm eaters.

Thanks for the info guys. I released him where he'll have lots of slugs and worms to eat.
