Substrate Help

Hi all,

I am in northern VA and learned (the hard way) that cypress mulch is only available here seasonally. Does anyone have any other ideas for substrate? My tegus love to dig and burrow but I am down to 2 bags of cypress. Thanks.

Have you tried garden centers/nurseries? Considered other mulches, or barks (you must take note of the type of wood, and any dyes or chemicals)?
There are online sources for mulch, but obviously, shipping costs become a factor.

Harald is right. Also, no cedar or pine.

thanks guys. I was under the impression that cypress was the only mulch proved harmless. aspen works in a pinch, but I will take a look at some others.

Tegus are most often kept on cypress mulch, orchid bark or eucalyptus mulch.
These seem to be the top choices. Cypress is available here year around, it is the one I use most.
