I have certainly been impressed by how well bearded dragons sell. I recently bought 10 of them and quickly sold 7, in effect winding up with three almost for free. I made all my money back, just had to spend some time selling them.

I noticed that when I was selling them at two shows I had them at, a few people asked me if I had or knew of a source of Rankin's Bearded Dragons (aka: Lawson's Bearded Dragons, and Lesser Bearded Dragons); scientific name: Pogona henrylawsoni (aka: P. brevi and P. rankeni). I did not know of a source, but these inquiries got me curious. The Rankin's is one of the smaller bearded dragons growing to a length of about 14 inches as opposed to the Inland Bearded Dragons attainable 22 inches. This sounds like a lizard for those who like beardies but shy away from them because of their larger size. With this in  mind I am thinking of buying some for a breeding/sales project.

Any information on these would be appreciated. I am particularly interested in sources of them, pricing, breeding information (especially clutch size), sexing methods, and any unusual care requirements that these have which are different from the inland bearded Dragon. Even if you know only some of the info, please reply so I can at least get a bit here and there to put together.

Thanks. <img src="http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

Hey Glenn,
I breed them! &nbsp;I do like them a lot. &nbsp;They are as easy to breed as beardeds, take less space and less heat. &nbsp;Same awesome personality as a bearded--and 14 inches would be very large for one. &nbsp;They are more like 9-12 inches. &nbsp;One of my females laid 6 clutches this year after only brumating for 3 weeks. &nbsp;And each clutch had over 20 eggs.
Now, they are not as hot sellers as beardies, I think mostly because they are not as well known, and because they dont really come in all the fancy morphs--some slight color differences, but not much. &nbsp;When I describe them to people wanting a pet, it is perfect--a small beardie. &nbsp;We've been charging $89 each for them ($95 earlier this year when we were the only breeders that had them) and they have sold pretty steadily for us. &nbsp;
There are very few people working with them, and it seems like less this year than last for some reason.
We did have a lot of trouble acquiring ones that were unrelated and not heavily inbred. &nbsp;But kept looking and willing to pay extra shipping charges to get them from different people, we wound up with a good group. &nbsp;And babies are much harder to sex than beardeds for some reason. &nbsp;I'm able to guess pretty well, but it is hard to be able to guarantee sex (which everyone likes).
Anyways, I have a pretty extensive care sheet written up about them if you want me to email it to you. &nbsp;Or I've been meaning to post it on our website.
Hope that helps.
Dana

Dana and Loren,

I would love the care sheet you wrote. I would also appreciate a price list of what you have available. Thanks a million.

Best regards,
Glenn

Hi Dana,

I have been thinking about purchasing one myself, do you have any available? I would also love to see the care sheet too.
