cage size for 6 month old easterns

Hey everyone, I just got my ICC permit for a pair of 06 Easterns and was planning on housing them in an Animal Plastics rack system using Iris 900 series tubs (36x18x6) for probably about the year maybe two. Would these tubs be too big? Would that much room stress them out? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

My hatchlings go into a 28 quart rack. I put several hiding boxes in for each of them and they have done great. Your housing isn't much bigger. Just be sure and keep the humidity up.

So, two or three hides and maybe a humid hide as well?

That should work great. I also mist the whole cage the day I expect them to shed. It is sort of dry in San Diego. When they are small they are a little prone to stuck sheds.

For babies, I have found terra-cotta planter plates make simple yet great hides, as you can soak them in water over night and they retain a great deal of moisture, making for wonderful humid hides. As the snakes grow larger, I use larger plates, until such time they are large enough to use sweater boxes and such as humid hides.

Congratulations and best of luck with the acquisition,

Jeff
