They did a local spraying here a while back after the mosquito population EXPLODED after the tropical storm dumped tons of rain in the area. We were apprehensive about this, of course. But honestly, the mosquitoes were a severe problem and were pretty much locking us inside for the duration. Anytime we went outside for any reason we had to literally run from one place to the next to try to outrun the bloodsuckers. When Connie would pull the truck into the garage, I would man the rollup door as quickly as I could and DOZENS would still follow the truck into the garage. Doing ANYTHING outside at all was completely out of the question.
They sprayed on a Saturday night with planes making mutiple passes overhead, and we were amazed when Sunday morning arrived and there were NO more moquitoes. None. Zip. Butterflies, dragonflies, and others were still flying around, the little toads that had come out in droves as well were still hoping around, and pretty much everything seemed normal EXCEPT the mosquitoes were gone. I don't recall what they sprayed with, but it sure as heck seemed to do the job!
Of course, they are making a comeback again now, but I don't know if a second spraying is in the works. Quite honestly, I would welcome it. I sure would hate to see malaria make a comeback in the southeast USA...
