Coronavirus outbreak: 2nd US case confirmed in Chicago

A Chicago resident is the second confirmed case of coronavirus in the United States, the CDC confirmed Friday.

The CDC said that the patient is clinically doing well and is in stable condition.

This is the second confirmed case in the United States of coronavirus, which has killed 26 and sickened more than 800 in China.

Earlier this week, health officials confirmed a man in Washington state was diagnosed with coronavirus. Officials said the man in his 30s had recently traveled to Wuhan, where health officials believe the outbreak started in a fresh food market.

A biologist over there (working to leave the area at the time) made the claim that there have been a lot more deaths than reported in China. I have no knowledge as to how accurate that claim might be, but it would not surprise me.

Seems pretty typical of what governments will do in a real emergency. Keep everything under wraps so as not to panic the populace until things become too obvious to keep on lying about it.

I think the sign to look for would be all of the big wigs heading for their bunkers.

Might not be a good time to plan a trip out of the country. Heck, maybe not even IN the USA.

As soon as truck drivers decide it's too risky to travel to make deliveries, things could get pretty dicey.

How long can a coronavirus live on a door handle?

Coronaviruses in general are spread through close contact a range of about 3 to 6 feet. The virus is primarily spread through a sick person coughing or sneezing on someone, said Dr. Kathy Lofy, a health officer in Washington state.

A person could also become infected through contact with the virus particles on a surface, though it's unknown how long the new coronavirus can survive on surfaces outside of the body. If an infected person sneezes or coughs onto a surface, such as a countertop or doorknob, and another person touches that surface and then rubs his or her eyes or nose, for example, the latter may get sick.

The SARS virus was also spread through feces. Denison suggested the same spreading mechanism may be found in the new virus, but it's too early to know for sure.

As with many viruses, just try to reduce modes of transmission as best as you can. I carry those pocket-size hand sanitizers, and NEVER touch my eyes, nose, or mouth when we're out in public.

My husband and I wash our hands after we order in a restaurant - menus are the worst! We're courteous to other people, and always cough/sneeze into our shirt sleeves. I'm around so many pets, that I'll bet I wash my hands 30 times a day!

As others have said, it would be nice if other people would practice better personal hygiene. The next best thing, is to just be diligent about your own.
