agreed. i was thinking about getting a dog for a while too, a bullmastiff, if i could find one. only problem was i really evaluated how much time i have to care for and train and decided it really wasn't a good time for me (i only have one full time job). it's difficult trying to raise a new puppy, even with just one job, let alone schooling and other activities. you'll have to be there to walk/poop your dog ever 3 hours at a minimum, is it really possible with such a busy work schedule to devote enough time to it?
for me it wasn't. as much as i would love to have a dog, i can't. i live in an apartment (half a house, with 2 roommates), i have a full time job that occasionally requires staying long hours, i don't have a huge amount of extra funds since i'm paying school loans, a car loan and trying to put money towards my 401k.
for me, i would have liked to have a bullmastiff because they are a very loyal companion, intelligent, and although they do like to play and run around some, they also enjoy just hanging out. they are also known as being fairly protective of their owners and property, so when i'm eventually living by myself, it may also provide a bit of security (whether just imagined or actual, doesn't really matter). they have a short coat, and won't necessarily cover everything with hair (although drool is another matter entirely). my other problem is that i couldn't find a trainer that specialized or at least had a good knowledge of them in my area.
just some thoughts :-)
