Scientists First to Create Functional Inner-Ear Cells

So Im surfin around on the Science Daily website... and this story is on the home page (posted May 14th) I thought it was intriguing... that scientists have been able to recreate inner ear hair cells...

Quote:
After years of lab work, researchers in Heller's lab will report in the May 14 issue of Cell that they have found a way to develop mouse cells that look and act just like the animal's inner-ear hair cells -- the linchpin to our sense of hearing and balance -- in a petri dish.
The story goes on to state that this is first step into curing hearling loss and deafness.... they say it could take 10 years to reap the benifits of this achievment... but it looks promising.
