I have used fed ex for several years, and have shipped and recieved hundreds of packages and not once have had a single issue. Packages have always been here next day and tracking info has always been accurate. I have had several drivers over many years and have never experienced any problems with their service.

I have asked several of the drivers about their delivery methods and this is what I was told.

1. It is their job to deliver the package to your door. IF there is no signature required, then they have no reason or obligation to knock on your door, (regardless of whether or not it is marked perishable). They are to leave it as close to the main entrance as possible and it must be visible from that entrance.

2. If a package is marked "signature required" they are to knock on the door and try to get a response. If there is no response, the package is then returned to the hub and a delivery attempt is made the next day.

Now, this is just what has been told to me by my delivery drivers. I have not checked into fed ex policies and am not going to, but it does make perfect sense to me. If you know you are expecting a delivery, make all the needed arrangements to get it promptly. Be home (if it is perishable), place a note on the door with specific instructions and so forth.

Just my experiences here

I have received 75 animals over the past 2 few weeks without any problems. My delievery guy always seems curious about what I'm receiving and always get a kick out of what's in the box. Now I know I have been lucky. I know a few people that have had problems with there animals not getting there on time. you could always request that your package kept at the hub so you can pick it up. This should avoid your packages being left in the sun or late.
