How do I avoid getting taken advantage of in the future?

1. He might have gotten out, but he was just on Fauna a couple of days ago. You can see April brought the thread to his attention, and I just sent him a PM about it as well.

2. How do you avoid this in the future. I think you did "good" in your initial inquiry about the snake. If you wanted to do "great" in future...
a. Could have asked for the BHB proof of genetics sheet/paperwork.
b. Could have verified it with BHB like you did here recently, but a year ago.
c. Could buy from people who have actual Trader Ratings here on Fauna, Dave has (0) rating.

Even after all that... still... there is no guarantee. Rich (the site owner) has set up a series of tools to help individuals in the buying/selling process.
1. BOI reviews and the ability to inquire about someone
2. Trader ratings
3. Coin system, means an individual has a verified credit card/paypal account.
4. History of account creation.
5. Karma ratings

So who do you have better chance of success buying from?
Seller #1: New account, no ratings, no BOI reviews
Seller #2: Established account, multiple positive trader ratings, established Karma, multiple positive BOI reviews and Coin rating.

Seller #2 all day long - My two cents
