so confused!!

Maybe someone out there can help me. my girlfriend and i bought a ball python in mid jan 2007 "she" was 18in. when we got her, now i'm guessing shes about 20-21in. the breeder said she was born around october-november 2006. My problem is that the breeder never probed her he just kinda screwed around with vent a bit and said she's a female and my friends just bought one from the same guy who said she was born in september bought their's is considerably bigger than mine. I'm worried that i was sold a male, so does my ball sound like an average size for a female her age or did i get taken?

Sounds fine. The size of the snake has nothing to do with it's sex.

4 feet full grown is average for a male....

Sounds like he sexed her by popping rather than probing, both of which are just fine to determine gender, if done by experienced people. If you aren't confident that this breeder got it right then have the snake resexed by either another breeder, an experienced hobbyist or your herp vet.
