As far as I understand, there are no shows in Minnesota this year.
One friend was trying to set one up, but his partner backed out and he can't afford it on his own.
It isn't just the rental of the facility, but the insurance for it and all the advertising. Plus, the facility will usually charge extra for electricity, having to use their union janitors, tables, etc. and will take a percentage of the entrance fees, too. Unless you have the backing of the local herp society,(or are independently wealthy) it is extremely hard to set up a show.

While I looked into hosting a show, we are still on the fence. The two biggest problems is insurance (which I think I could figure out) and advertising. In order for it to work we would need a lot of help with advertising especially in the cities, things like logo design, posters made and dropped off at pet stores etc... The last issue would be getting vendors to committ which we would shoot for 20 as a goal. I am still looking into it and am looking at trying to possibly work something out with some people at the local zoo that want to add a reptile center, so I would like to try to run a fundraiser (such as a silent auction etc...) in conjunction with the show. Basically I can find a place and I'm pretty sure find insurance and get a decent amount of vendors, but like most shows to get people to show up you need advertising and that is one of the big obstacles right now.

It would be nice to have a local chapter or something of the Minnesota herp society up this way, but we know Minnesota ends at Maple Grove.

I looked at putting one on this year but after looking at the costs that it would involve and doing it as a one man (newbie) show it just wasn't able to work for me. I would still like to do one and maybe in the future but at this time I couldn't take the investment risk (that I'm pretty sure I would have taken a loss for the first few shows anyways).

I forgot to add, although there were a few people that were definately interested in vending, there were many that said they would be interestd but that didn't seem to committed.
