Happy Happy Gecko Dance

I am getting my very first geckoes, will probably receive them next week. Have kept other lizards and have beardies now, but I am excited about the arrival of my leopard geckoes!!! (May be asking questions)...

Congrats on your new geckos! Ask any question you need to here, someone will surely know the answer. Oh, and just so you'll know: leopard geckos are addictive You'll find out!

This is a pair from a breeder with an excellent reputation; they are young adults. If they appear happy and healthy can I dispense with quarantine or do y'all do that for all arrivals regardless of breeder rep? For how long do you quarantine geckoes?
The advantage to dispensing is that the reptile room is kept locked when I am not in it and that insures that the pesky kitten we adopted in the summer stays out of the way; but I could put a cage in my bedroom and it would be relatively safe.
BTW this cat is from a whole litter of kittens dropped off by some scumbag at the school where I used to work at 3 weeks, she was starving and desperate when we got her and she rules the roost now. My son (she is HIS cat, he has wanted one forever)allows her on the table when he eats and gives her treats, she is disgustingly spoiled. When I am studying she jumps up and sits right ON the book I am trying to read.
Well enough about cats, I mean talk about off topic lol; I appreciate your time if you reply.

Lucille, I cannot speak for anyone but my self. I quarantine all new animals for minimum of 45 days. If one isn't eating right or somthing else seems off then it is longer. I do this regardless of who I recieve my animals from. You never know who might have a problem that they themselves may not know of. So short and sweet quarantine!! Your current animals are not worth the risk.

P.S. Good luck with your new addiction. You might as well start seeking help now.
Hell, my name is Jeremy (insert your name here) and I'm a gecko addict. LOL

I take Jeremy's quarantine time line a little further - 90 days. If they appear ill in any way get a fecal exam done by a vet.

And like Kelli said - very addictive- they are reptile crack basically.

kelli got me hooked and now going on my third year i have a full wall from floor to ceiling with geckos

How on EARTH do you feed and care for 100 geckoes??
My son has complained about the cricket smell so I am going to feed mealworms; I had thought about roaches but starter colonies of the non climbing ones are too expensive for me right now.
(I have a friend who is an older woman like myself, she would just have a FIT over the concept of IMPORTING roaches into one's house lol).

Last year at this time we only had 2 leos and now we have 43 and two in the incubator....very addictive. We feed all of ours mealworms and superworms. We order them by the thousands and it isn't as expensive as you would think. Your son is right about the crickets...I think they stick too....lol Take care and congrats on your new leos.
